Swaziland boasts a rich and diverse history and culture; it is one of only two kingdoms in the Southern African region and is also the smallest country on the entire Dark Continent. Its beautiful scenery, warm hospitality and unique tourist attractions make it a wonderful holidaying experience for its visitors. The picturesque Shiselweni region is one of the provinces in Swaziland and is steeped in history and tradition.
Visitors to this part of the country can visit Nhlangano – translated as “the meeting place” – which commenced in 1947 after King Sobhuza II of Swaziland met with King George VI of Great Britain. Nhlangano’s air is clearer and cooler than the rest of the country and the town is fairly laidback unlike the busier areas of Mbabane and the like, making it the ideal dwelling for those who need to get away from it all and rejuvenate their minds and bodies. The town of Hlatikulu follows in a similar vein and is just 27km north of Nhlangano, boasting magnificent views of the Grand Valley in the Shiselweni region.
For those avid nature fans or even those looking for a perfect photo moment, the Grand Valley is the ideal place to visit as it shows off some of the best scenery Swaziland has to offer. The Kubuta Valley is another highlight of the Shiselweni province and embodies tranquillity and a purity of nature. Shiselweni is the ideal place to enjoy bird watching – a favourite pastime in Swaziland - go on nature trails, enjoy horseback riding and quad biking, or experience a thrilling experience exploring some of the caves in the area.
