See The Big Cats At Hlane Royal National Park

See the Big Cats at Hlane Royal National Park
browse (1 / 3)

With a quota of four of the Big Five, Hlane Royal National Park scores perfect points as Swaziland’s largest protected area. Lion, leopard, elephant and rhino roam around and Hlane Royal National Park is home to the largest herds of game in the Kingdom. The lion shares its name with the King of Swaziland as ‘iNgwenyama’ that his people have respectfully bestowed on him. Hlane was named by King Sobhuza II and covers 30 000 hectares of Swazi bushveld, dominated by ancient hardwood vegetation. Abundant and diverse bird life includes the highest density of nesting white backed vultures in Africa.

Lion were reintroduced to Swaziland after an absence of 30 years in 1994 and the other cats were not far behind – in 1995 the leopard and cheetah joined the lion at Hlane. A herd of young elephant were re-introduced to Hlane and are often seen close to Ndlovu Camp drinking with white rhino at the waterhole. Your own accommodation is less primitive as there are many self catering units, guest houses, safari lodges, beehive vilages and camps to visit. Swazi Trails is an adventure group that takes travellers white water rafting down the Zambezi, caving in the Gobholo caves and on mountain biking, hiking, and cultural routes. Chubeka Trails and other game viewing tours keeps in mind the trailing philosophy of the Big Game Parks of the Kingdom of Swaziland which is to promote an affinity with nature and kinship with all life as well as uphold the symbol of royalty and the pride of the lion.
