Your royal experience can start off with a bang at the Manzini Market. Located in the Lowveld, Manzini is the largest city in Swaziland. This commercial and industrial centre of Swaziland may well be the capital but interestingly isn’t. It’s sprawling and bustling roads can get a little bit too busy for your liking but needless to say, it is a wonderful experience.
Every Thursday the market opens and is bustling with life and energy, with explosions of colour and crafts where you are sure to find something you love. If you don’t find anything, which is highly unlikely, you are also able to get the locals to custom-make a dress for you while there are many other things to keep the mind busy. Herbal medicines, exquisite woodcarvings and spectacular jewelry are all on offer in this tourist’s paradise of mementos for family, friends and yourself. But do be aware it is not a typical curio shop, it can become very noisy and very crowded while it also can be quite dirty. But this is a typical African market if you would like to experience one.
Apart from the chaos you are able to get traditional curios and dress, you are even able to assemble your own authentic ritual outfit, including the real animal skins and spears. If you don’t mind a bit of disorder and mayhem and are able to replace that with a truly African experience, you will love this buzzing African market.
